Abrasiveness
1. The property of a substance that causes wear of a surface by friction (resistance when one substance contacts another).

2. The quality of being able to wear away another material or scratch it.

Abrasiveness comes from the Latin word "ab" meaning "away" and the Latin word “radare” meaning “to scrape.” Put the words together and you get “to scrape away.”
