Endoesophagitis is an outdated term that refers to inflammation of the inside lining of the esophagus. The esophagus is the tube in the body that food goes down to enter the stomach. Endoesophagitis comes from the Greek word "endon" meaning "within," the Greek word "oisophagus" meaning "gullet," and the Greek word "itis" meaning "inflammation." Put the words together and you have "inside gullet inflammation."
