Galvanotherapy means to treat a disease by applying a direct electrical current. A direct electrical current is electricity that flows in only one direction. Galvano comes from the Italian scientist Luigi Galvani (1737-1798), who is famous for his work with electricity. Therapy comes from the Greek word "therapeia" meaning "medical treatment."
