Gastroparalysis means paralysis of the muscular coat of the stomach. Paralysis is loss of movement and/or sensation. Gastroparalysis comes from the Greek word “gaster” meaning “the belly,” the Latin word “pario” meaning “to bring forth,” and the Greek word “lysis” meaning “a loosening.” Put the words together and you have “to bring forth a loosening (of) the belly.”
