Hetero- is a word part that means other, another, or different. For an example of a word using hetero-, see heterotopia, an abnormal condition in which an organ or part of the body is out of its normal place. Thus, the organ or body part is in a different place than it should be. Hetero- comes from the Greek word "heteros" meaning "other."
