Heterodont means having teeth of varying shapes, such as humans and most other mammals do. Compare heterodont to homodont, which is having teeth that are all alike in shape. Heterodont comes from the Greek word "heteros" meaning "other," and the Greek word "odous" meaning "tooth." Put the words together and you get "other tooth."
