Nadir means the lowest point. An example would be the lowest point of blood counts after it has been depressed by the treatment of cancer with chemotherapy. Cancer is any of a large group of malignant diseases characterized by an abnormal, uncontrolled growth of new cells in one of the body organs or tissues. Chemotherapy is chemical substances to kill cancer cells. Nadir comes from the Arabic word "nazir" meaning "opposite the highest point."
