Randomization is when individuals are assigned to groups, such as in research studies, by chance. The two groups that people are assigned to in research are the experimental group (the group that receives the treatment) and the control group (the group that does not receive the treatment). Randomization comes from the Middle English word "randoun" meaning "run violently."
