A ratio is an expression of the relationship in quantity, amount, or size between two or more things. For example, if we had 3 black marbles for every 5 blue marbles, the ratio of black marbles to blue marbles is 3 to 5. This can be written as a fraction (3/5) or in this manner (3:5). Ratio comes from the Latin word "reor" meaning "to compute."
